September 2013, go figure.....

posted September 15, 2013
19/20 October; Cleveland Apple Festival. Been painting and painting. Looking forward to getting out and meeting some new people. Good thing, too-been talking to the dog a lot lately, and she's starting to answer me back. Probably not good. Quality yard-sale-ing and dumpster diving this summer, lots of interesting cast-offs to create with. Figured out that I can carry way more stuff in the summer when I take the top off the Jeep. Just call me a "Problem solver."
OH,  yeah.

STAYING BUSY.....

STAYING BUSY.....
The past several weeks have found me delighting in the rituals of spring. Gardening, cleaning the windows, and that most important of all-GARAGE sales. YESSSSS-second only to that week before the end of the tax year when everyone donates their junk to Goodwill so they can get a receipt for the IRS.

Spring cleaning seems to yield the very finest that the dark corners of the attic have to offer. Obscure, tired artifacts eagerly awaiting the metamorphosis my twisted paintbrush has to offer.

......AND I, MY FRIENDS, AM READY.

                     Let  the weirdness begin..........

FOUND SOME REALLY COOL items while foraging this past weekend. A teapot, 4 cannonball table legs, a fish-shaped cake mold. No idea what to do with them just yet, but they're pretty cool. Just glad that most Memphians don't REALLY pack heat, so as long as I don't garbage-pick in Orange Mound I'm probably okay. Planning to do my first show back in the loop this fall, the Cleveland Apple Festival in Cleveland, TN on 19/20 Oct.

Toward this end, I have been painting diligently, mostly gourds. A few new faces, some old favorites. Interspersed with yard work and amateur bodybuilding, my other two passions. AND I'm finally grasping a fundamental truth; if I rake for three hours, or do too many sets of inclined chest presses at the gym, I cannot raise my arms high enough to keep a paint brush aloft. When I was twenty, I could just go do a little more of the same, loosen up and remedy the problem.
NOW it just aches more.
Getting old is NOT for sissies. Another one of those little tidbits of information Mom neglected to mention, sorta like menopause and age spots. Thanks, mom. Seriously. Just glad I shed the tequila habit years ago (okay, EXCEPT for the Sunday morning Bloody Marys......).BUT- gotta do SOMETHING to wind down after that five-mile early morning rollerblading trip..... yeah, I may be getting older, but I REFUSE to grow/give  up.......   ;-)

...wow. so what exactly is a "blog" for, anyway?

I like bold type.   I think once you hit forty, it's just easier to admit you're halfway blind than pretend everything's OK.
I won't lie; I would really rather be painting. OR scavenging.

Today is Friday, which means "Yard Sale Day" in my neck of the woods. I like to buy weird things nobody wants and paint them. There's probably something Freudian about that, but since I slept through that part of Psych 101, I don't remember. It just seemed prudent, since I was a little hung over and didn't really want to know if I was guilty of any deviant behavioral patterns anyway.

I also like changing fonts. Not sure if that means I'm ADD, or schizophrenic, or just like different fonts. ANYWAY-after a military career spent following all directives with precise accuracy (well, sorta)-and a subsequent "career" as a professional mom (my youngest recently headed for college, hello terminal indebtedness!)- I am finally doing what I was born to do; stand in front of an easel at 2 a.m. in a t-shirt & bunny slippers, a champagne flute in one hand and a paint brush in the other. I'll keep you posted on what happens next.  DJ  ;-)
