Living in the backwoods off-grid, in Newton County, Arkansas, it is challenging to find a way to earn supplemental income (I am semi-retired and tired of having my use of time determined by a job comittment).  I have always wished to do the crafts I was interested in before I brought in children (raised two alone), and when I moved to the woods, I thought I would finally get to do them (weaving, sewing, designing), however, as it turned out, I spent the last twenty years at a job, being of service to others and basically just getting by.  Now that I have stopped working at a job, I am readapting to the possibilities for myself that I recognize.

My daughter, Eya Floyd, is an artist.  She has always been an artist, since she could hold a crayon or colored pencil.  I always encouraged her and was astounded at her talent for drawing, painting, creating jewelry and sculpture.  She put herself through college and graduated with a degree in Graphic Arts.  Immediately after graduating, she began working and even though she was working forty hours per week, she still managed to create sculpture, jewelry, and paintings.  Two years ago, after eight years with a company, they dropped her and she found she really did need to get creative, in terms of bringing in the money she needs.  She has been producing more work and selling prints and cards of her work, displaying her work at events in Austin, Texas.

Eya and I have a good relationship, based on unconditional love and support.  I love her work and have always wondered if I could somehow help promote it.  Recently, on the spur of the moment, I decided to participate in a community event that included having a booth out of which one might show and sell ones work.  My daughter was completely okay with sending me a couple of packages of her work to display and possibly sell.  I felt a spurt of creativity and enthusiasm and managed to pull together a  pretty nice display.  On top of that, I actually sold quite a bit of her work.  Consequently, I am thinking perhaps I could find a way to participate in shows on a fairly regular basis.

Eventually, I hope to get more organized and actually do the crafts that I have always liked doing.  Meanwhile, I am happy and honored to get Eya Claire's work out there for as many as possible to see.
