KIM STREETER, ARTIST BIO

I am so intrigued by the incredible sights that surround us.  Nature, especially, provides us with visions of perfection – if only we look.  I have tried to capture that ultimate perfection for the last 30 years.  A friend of mine has said (on numerous occasions) “I'll tell your family you were happy when you died.”  She says this because she has watched me climb vertical earth and stone masses without safety gear, looking for the “right angle.”  She has witnessed me wrapping my legs around the branch of a tree, contorting myself so that I can hang over a river “to better appreciate” the depth of colors.  And, she even followed me when I blindly ran on a rocky, forested trail in an effort to catch the perfect light of a coastal sunset.

I've been taking photos since my mom let me grab the camera when I was in the second grade.  By the time I was off to fifth grade camp – the family camera was referred to as “Kim's Camera.”

I took that camera EVERYWHERE:  From my back yard on Fox Island, to swim meets up and down the West Coast, to Walla Walla where I graduated from Whitman College, to British Columbia where my Great Aunt Isabel pioneered, to the desert of Arizona where I coached at A.S.U., and to California where I received my Masters degree at the University of the Pacific. While working on the Olympic Bobsled Track, I bit the bullet and entered the digital age so that I might capture the varied landscapes of Utah.  And now, back home in the Puget Sound, I am once again immersed in the beauty that first inspired me.

I love capturing the beauty of a moment, and hope these moments inspire you.
