Hi, I live with my husband way back in the woods in a small cabin, we are off grid and have a small solar system. I am a mom of 5, grandma to 8 and happily married for over 30 years. I have been sewing for 40 plus years, but since moving to the woods I have been been sewing on my 1874 singer treadle, I also do all my ironing with a sad/hot iron heated on my woodstove. All my items are truly handmade, as I have no way to use a bias/binding making machine, a die cutter, serger, etc. My treadle sews a simple straight stitch so all my seams are finished with French seams. All my quilt bindings are cut, folded, pinned and ironed with my hot iron, always remember to grab the pot holder first. Creating children's items, quilts etc using the same machine, iron and technique of over 100 years ago is very rewarding. The gentle sound of the treadle on a cold winter morning, the smell of coffee while it perks on the cookstove, the snap and crackle of the fire, the stillness and beauty of the woods in winter.......sheer bliss. It may take me longer to make a quilt, but it is truly handmade and made with love. Not bad for a girl from Brookyn New York, a former army nurse......now living happily in the woods and bringing beauty thru my treadle
