So does anyone here do walk around entertainment? My question is this- what is the protocal for entertaining? Do you just show up and start gathering a crowd? Should I get a booth or worry about a performance space? Can I use a microphone? Is it okay to "hat" the crowd for tips? I know every situation is different, but some general guidelines on how it's done would be great!

General guide, 1. get the festival's permission before you do ANYTHING! The best thing is get the fest to pay you a daily rate plus hat. I have seen rates from $250 to 700 per day. then get there early, draw the crowds hat the crowds and get paid at the end of the fest too.
