MARZEL Weaving produces hand-woven textiles for the individual and the home. Color and comfort are important elements of each piece.

      Mary Ann Zelinsky is the sole proprietor of MARZEL Weaving located in Johnson City, Tennessee. Her interest in weaving began when she had the opportunity to live on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia Canada and attended Cape Breton School of Crafts. She later served as a weaving instructor for at Camp Arcadia in Casco, Maine. During the 1990’s she lived in Ethiopia for a year and designed, taught, and managed an occupational skills weaving program for physically challenged and economically disadvantaged individuals with the aim of giving them useful technical skills with which to improve their living situation. In addition, she participated in a research project with Michigan State University collecting woven textiles and interviewing weavers in the Doko region of Ethiopia. Mary Ann co-authored a book chapter on two weavers as part of the project Ethiopia: Traditions of Creativity (1999) Washington State University.

    She produces hand-woven textiles for the individual and home on her twelve harness Macomber loom. Color and comfort are important elements of each piece. Her current portfolio includes towels, table runners, small bags, wraps for the soul (a.k.a. shawls), baby blankets, fiber hugs (a.k.a. scarves), spa face cloths, and eye glass cases. She enjoys working with different types of fiber; including merino wool, silk, bamboo, linen, and cotton. She is a member of the Weaver’s Guild of Boston, Western North Carolina Fibers Hand weaver’s Guild, Over-mountain Weaver’s Guild of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Holston Mountain Artisans Co-op in Abingdon, VA, . MARZEL Weaving is a supporter of the Baatany Goat Project on Roan Mountain and makes contributions to charities through sales from Wraps for the Soul.
In 2012, she received the Best New Artist award at the Mountain Makins Festival at the Rose Center in Morristown, TN. (The Mountain Makins festival is held the fourth weekend of October.)
