18th Annual Schoolhouse Fiddling Bee

Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the Eighteenth ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE.  This historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 12, at 2:30 PM, downstairs in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse.  In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice.  There will also be other divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle tunes played on any instrument other than a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest (cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers an opportunity to play tunes that are usually not allowed in any other contest.   Contestants can pre-register on line (http://www.greenblattandseay.com/schoolhouse_fiddling_bee_preregistration.shtml). Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students, and $1.00 for children.  Fiddlers and their back-ups are admitted for free.  The contest will be followed by a light snack and an acoustic jam session. Harmonica Workshop/Concert

David Seay, Master Artist with the Nebraska Arts Council, will be presenting a Harmonica Workshop/Concert on Sunday, November 9, 2014, at 2:30 PM in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse.  Each paid admission includes a free harmonica for those 6 years old or older.  The workshop will include an introduction to the 10 hole diatonic harmonica in the key of C Major. The workshop will be downstairs in The Old Avoca Schoolhouse, and  followed by light refreshments, and an acoustic jam session with the performers.  Avoca is in southern Cass County, Nebraska, on the 13 C Spur,  one mile south of Highway 34. Train Songs

Irish Music Concert

Traditional Irish tunes will be featured, along with some Greenblatt & Seay originals inspired by the great Irish traditions. Greenblatt & Seay have been playing and singing together since the night they met, decades ago.  Their performance on March 13 will include the championship fiddling styles of Deborah Greenblatt, and the fancy whistle-playing of David Seay. The Feminist Manifesto

Scandinavian Music Concert

Celtic Fiddle Camp

The Old Avoca Schoolhouse in Avoca, Nebraska will be hosting a specialbyby. Music from Ireland, Scotland, and Wales will be featured.  The sessions will be led by championship fiddler and author, Deborah Greenblatt.   The camp will be on Wednesday, March 15  - Friday, March 17, from 9 AM to 12 Noon.  Musicians can sign up for 1 day, or 2 days, or all 3 days. On Wednesday, participants will be mostly reading tunes, using sheet music in standard notation.  We'll be learning melodies, harmonies, and chords.  You will be improving your sight reading, and experiencing fiddling fun. On Thursday, we will be mostly playing tunes by ear, so feel free to bring your recording gadgets.  Sheet music versions of the tunes will be provided for you by the end of the day, just in case your ears need the help. On Friday, we will be mostly jamming, modulating, singing, dancing, experimenting, sharing, and playing fiddle related instruments. Greenblatt & Seay Songbook

Multi-instrumentalists, Greenblatt & Seay, will be sharing their original tunes and stories on Sunday, May 14, at 2:30 PM, in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse. Registration is now open for the 2017 Schoolhouse Fiddle Camps, in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse, in Avoca, Nebraska. Deborah Greenblatt, championship fiddler, author of many fiddle collections, will help the campers get in touch with their inner fiddler.
