I am one of a 2 person partnership called Whimsey Divas. My partner is the true artist and makes the handmade, hand painted cloth dolls and paints the more intricate designs of our painted furniture. I do the more decorative, folk art, primitive painting on small boxes and small pieces of furniture. I, also, build glass and porcelain totems, yard art and decorations for the home or outdoors. Along with these totems, I make jewelry caddies for the vanities or dressers from glass or porcelain dishes. Sandy's dolls are made of muslin, stuffed with polyester filler and painted with acrylic paints. They are called Lotty Dolls. Adorable whimsical dolls.
Sandy and I decided to go into a partnership because we both found we liked doing pretty much the same things and had wanted to paint furiture for a long time. We don't just strip and paint, we take it and paint designs on it-either floral or purely whimsical. We find used furniture at sales, auctions, etc. and do our magic. We've even altered the piece of furniture to go with a design we've decided on. Since we are just beginning, we don't have a lot of furniture painted. That's why we are filling in with other items until we can build an inventory.
I do most of the "filler work" with the glass. I love beautiful glassware whether it's vintage or new. I build glass and porcelain yard totems-small to large. I, also, make glass decorations for entertaining that can eventually go outside. Along with the totems, I make jewelry caddies that go on vanities, in the bedroom or bathroom or on dressers. I have serving pieces made from candlesticks and plates to fancy serving bowls perched on a candlestick. I use vintage dishes and vintage drawer pulls and knobs whenever possible on this glassware.
