MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

You ordered up a beer and sat beside me.
I’d settled there to hide out from the pain.
And as we talked it seemed as though you knew me
and the places that we came from were the same.
Before you came along, there was another.
A soldier who had answered to the call.
A folded flag was given in his honor.
Even fallen heroes still stand tall.
I knew it from the moment I first saw you.
Something in my heart just recognized
you were someone I could share my life with;
someone with so much more down deep inside…
more than meets the eye.
You knew I didn’t love you for your money.
And how could I have loved you for your fame?
I just thought that both of us were lonely,
but it seemed like everybody knew your name.
Now I see you out there in the spotlight.
Just last night we lay beneath the stars.
Everybody feels as though they know you,
but they don’t know you like I do…
I knew it from the moment I first saw you.
Something in my heart just recognized
You were someone I could share my life with
Someone with so much more down deep inside…
If there’s one thing I can’t forget
It’s the way you looked on the night we met. Your smile makes me remember
Your long, dark hair and the voice of an angel; what I felt so long ago
you looked so familiar even though you were a stranger.
My eyes opened up and I saw what I was missing… In your arms it’s all familiar…
…peace of mind that I had known
I knew it from the moment I first saw you.
Something in my heart just recognized
You were someone I could share my life with
Someone with so much more down deep inside…
More than meets the eye.
