Toggle size

posted December 14, 2017
In answer to a question I have been asked:  Most of our jewelry comes with 10 mm toggles.  This is a size that most people find comfortable and does not over-power the jewelry design.  However, on my worst days that is sometimes too small for me, so I know that may be too small for some.  A custom order can be requested for toggles up to 20 mm at an added fee of $3.00 and an extra 2 day delivery time.  This is because we do not usually carry them in stock. but can usually order them and have them within two days.  We hope that will change in a few years when we can move into bigger quarters and have more room to carry more stock.  Right now we live year round in a 24 foot RV and space is very limited.  It is great for traveling to shows though, we just take our home with us.  As a sign we saw recently said, "Home is where we park it."  We have our eyes on a 29 foot bunk house with slides that will almost double our interior space and storage, and give us a dedicated work room.  I can hardly wait.

Love and Health,

Kat

About Dragon Walk

posted December 14, 2017
My name is Kat, short for Katherine.  My husband's name is Art.

I spent my whole life being told I was worthless and had no talent until I met Art.  He encouraged me to find my interests and seek my talents.  I found out I am a lot more creative and talented than I thought.  A friend introduced me to beading and I found out I really enjoyed it.  I could create something beautiful and really express myself through beads.  Then I had a stroke.

The stroke took away the use of my left side.  In the hospital they were more concerned with teaching me to walk (a very useful skill) and eat and dress myself than fine manipulation.  They did a great job, don't get me wrong.  But I thought my creative days were over.  Then Art brought one of the necklaces I had been working on to the hospital to show the nurses.  My doctor saw it and told me not to stop beading.  He said to keep working at it because it would save the use of my left hand.  He talked to the therapists, and they made it part of my therapy.  At first I thought they were crazy.  I could barely hold a needle and thread.  Some days I still can't.  But little by little I got better.  I also learned to crochet.

The following year Art had to have bi-lateral knee surgery, meaning his knees were so bad they had to do both at once or it would not have done any good.  While he was in recovery he started beading too.  It helped him relax.  Last year he had a shoulder injury that is inoperable, and had to quit working.  Social Security does not pay the bills.  So, we decided to use the skills we share and enjoy to help make a living.  Dragon Walk Marketing was born.

Because of the effects of the stroke, I know how difficult it can be for people with limited mobility in their hands to wear jewelry.  People like me who have had strokes, people with arthritis, carpel tunnel, and many other conditions can not manipulate the lobster claw or jump ring clasps.  So, all of our jewelry has toggle clasps to make them easier to put on or take off.  I found that on all but the very worst days, I can put my necklace on or take it off without help.  So, we hope that our jewelry will bring a little beauty, joy and independence to our customers.

Love and Health to all,

Katherine and Art
