Member FAQs

We include these events for your benefit, as most are usually still good events. When trying to fill a certain weekend, and you have exhausted all searches for currently updated events, last year's info is better than no event at all. You do need to contact each event for current info.

There will always be only ONE listing for each event in our database (no duplicate events) and we do not publish events that are more than a year old. Our researchers will eventually update or remove non-updated events if all efforts (phone calls, emails & faxes) to get current info have failed.

It's a unique challenge maintaining our database of over 26,000 events. We make an intensive effort to research and secure updates on all events. Event promoters can change hands year to year, are slow to respond or do not have their dates or all details finalized yet. We receive updates daily, so check back often.

Pro Tip: Often, members will omit past events from their search. By selecting "All Years" on the Pro Search form, you can get a leg up on these events that others aren't seeing. You can't lose by just reaching out to the promoter for more info.

Our free basic membership includes:
  • All of our free E-lists (weekly call for artists & event updates, monthly newsletters, bi-monthly deadlines reminder & others)
  • List your business in the FN Festival Biz Directory
  • View basic info on all 26,000+ events throughout the US and Canada
  • Add show ratings & view rating numbers (pro level required for rating details/comments)
  • Add and update your events (festival members)
  • Create a basic Profile in the FestivalNet Community
  • Open a shop to sell your products online in our marketplace, available Free to all members!
We have 3 different paid Pro Member levels that include the items above plus additional features like:

For your benefit, we include these events to maximize your chances of not missing the deadline on a great show. When it comes to deadlines, they are usually around the same time each year, so the old information is usually very useful. We do not publish deadlines that are more than a year old and there will always be only ONE listing for each event in our database (no duplicate events, each one gets updated or removed from year to year). FYI - We make an intensive effort to get event updates, but some sponsors simply don't respond to our many requests.
Juried events have a selection committee for art & craft exhibitors, and require that you submit slides or photos of your work or products. The selection committee (the jury) reviews all applications before choosing exhibitors for the event. Sometimes there is a nonrefundable jury fee for these events.

Jury standards (and jury fees) will vary a lot -- some are very selective, and others simply want to prevent too much repetition in event exhibitors.

In Pro Search, after the number of entertainment stages, you will see abbreviations of specific genres of entertainment that event is seeking.

Level of entertainment:
I = International, N = National, R = Regional, L = Local

Types of music:
AL = alternative
AM = americana
BC = beach
BG = bluegrass
BL = blues
CL = classical/symphony
CH = children's
CR = christian
CY = country
CZ = cajun/zydeco
EL = electronic
ET = ethnic
EX = experimental
FK = folk
FU = funk
GP = gospel
JM = jam
JZ = jazz
LN = latin
ME = metal
NA = new age
OP = opera
OT = old-time
RA = ragtime
RB = rhythm & blues/soul
RG = reggae
RK = rock
RO = rockabilly
RP = rap
RT = roots
SO = soul
SP = spoken Word
SW = swing
TC = dj/dance/techno
TF = top forty/pop
WL = world

To find events that allow commercial items, try ALL of these.
  • In "Pro Search" select "commercial/retail" for "what booths are allowed" in the Exhibitors section (but keep the default settings for all other options like "juried" or "entertainment." It is OK to add the zip code radius option.)
  • Next try "corp./information" for "what booths are allowed" and again keep the default settings for all other related options.
  • Then try "craft" for "what booths are allowed" and select "non juried" and keep all other default settings. These events will sometimes allow commercial vendors.
  • Also try selecting "non juried" while keeping the default settings for all other related options, including "no preference" for "what booths are allowed."
  • Try putting the word "commercial" in the key word search. Keep in mind, a key word search looks for that word if it appears anywhere in the event information (i.e. event name, location, description, what is allowed...).
It is always better to select FEWER search options to improve your search results.

Don't rule out an event unless it is clearly 100% juried and/or 100% fine art and/or fine craft, check with each event to know for sure. Many events say art/craft, but allow some "commercial" items. Always check with an event to verify what they DO or DO NOT allow. It never hurts to ask!

Here are the ways you can search to look for art shows.
  • In "Pro Search", select "Juried events only" or select "Juried events" and check "Events w/Prize Money," BUT keep the default settings for other options like "what booths are allowed." Keep in mind there are many art shows that are not juried.
  • In the search options, select "fine art" or "fine craft" for "what booths are allowed."
Keep in mind, it is always better to select FEWER search options to improve your search results. Also, ALWAYS check with an event to verify that they DO or DO NOT allow what you are selling. It never hurts to ask!

You must have an account on our website to rate shows and/or promoters. If you are not a FN Member, you may become a basic member for free and then rate shows. Click the join link at the top of our site. Basic members may rate shows however to view individual ratings and comments, you must have a Pro account.

If you have an account, make sure you are logged in and from the tabs at the top, select "Events" and "Pro Search". Or from My Account, click "Find Events". Submit your search and in the results you will see ratings in the upper right corner of each event, along with links to add ratings. To find a specific show, use the "Key Word" field in the bottom left corner of Pro Search.

You will need to read and agree to the Rating Guidelines, available in the ratings form, to submit a rating. Click here to view our rating guidelines.

Also, check out this Rate Events page for events that have happened recently! You can sort by month and state to easily locate events and click directly to the rating form. Tip! Bookmark that page for easy access later!

Please visit this page to read about our privacy policy.

We do not sell, share or give away your information, ever.

You can subscribe and unsubscribe from our Newsletters or other FestivalNet communications by clicking "Manage Your E-lists" in your My Account area.

The Festival Biz Directory is opt-in only. You can choose to list your business in the Directory in your Modify Profile page.

No. The credit card number that you see in your Account Details page has all but the last 4 digits blanked out, and the card number is coming to that page from a different location than the remainder of your profile information -- in other words, the card info is not stored together with any of your other information.

When you click on "Upgrade/Renew", or go to the Pro Membership order form, you go to a secure page: the web address of that page begins with "https:", and the "s" means secure.

Yes, but you must contact FestivalNet ( support@festivalnet.com ) to do that. Please keep track of your User ID and Password. You must log in with the User ID listed with your event(s) in order to add or update an event. We prefer that you keep the User ID currently listed for your event/organization, but it is not required.
*Please Keep in Mind: If your account is used by more than one person in your organization, we highly recommend against changing your user ID to avoid confusion. If you are simply unsure of what your user ID is, feel free to contact us, and we will look it up for you instead of changing it.

The zip code radius search is approximate line of site from one zip code region to another. The distances are not point-to-point geographic specific, so there can be a margin of difference in actual distance of 5 to 15 miles.

Getting into a show last minute is always a risky proposition. If you are able to get a space in a fair or festival at the last minute, that means they still have vendor spaces available. This could very likely mean it is not a good show because otherwise, all spaces would be booked well in advance (in some instances it could mean the event had a last minute cancellation, but that is not very common.)

We provide excellent data on 26,000+ events, but we have no control over the quality of each show, it is up to you to evaluate each event and determine if you think it will work for you (i.e. be a profitable show), before you commit your time and money.

My Account is like your control center. You can access all member features from your My Account area. From here you can modify your profile & account details, manage your e-lists and access the Pro search to find events.

Your Profile is your business page on FestivalNet for others to learn about what you do! (Having a profile is optional, you can choose to not display yours and/or opt out of the directory in your 'Modify Profile' area.) Also termed "EPK" (Electronic Press Kit), your profile is where you talk about your business; your bio, member categories, medium/materials, profile picture, and more. From Modify Profile you can change this information that is displayed on your site.

Your Site is the combination of Your Profile, Blogs, Gallery, Calendar, Video and Friends. All of these items can be viewed at your site. You can also create a custom URL (web address) i.e.: http://festivalnet.com/johns_cool_stuff

Account Details contains all information about your FestivalNet account, including name, address, phone, contacts, credit card information, membership level, etc. You can activate autorenew here.

Go to "My Account" and select "Your Profile". Then from the drop down menu select "Modify Profile". Be sure to click Submit Changes at the bottom of the page once you've filled out your profile.

  • There is a disk space limit per level. You will be notified of this when you upload an image.
  • Acceptable formats are JPG, JPEG, PNG and GIF.

In Modify Profile, scroll down and check the option to "Make Profile Private" and click the 'no' box for "Festival Biz public search engine".

Click "Submit Changes" at the bottom of the page.

This is the web address of your FN profile/site. You can edit your site URL at the top of "Modify Profile". You can share your site address just like you'd share any website! Once you've created your profile and set your site URL, be sure not to change it once you start sharing it with others.

Keep in mind, web addresses can not have spaces in them. You can use the underscore character ("_") between words if you'd like.

In the top part of your Inbox you will see a "Blocked Users" button. Click that and you will see a list of blocked users. Delete the user name of the member you want to remove from your blocked list and click save (be sure to delete the whole line, don't leave a blank space).

From your inbox, click the icon next to the user name and you will see their profile. You can also click to view their profile from within the message by clicking on the user name or icon above the message.

First, be sure you are logged in to your account.

On your My Account page, click "Find Events". Select your search options, and click "Search Now." In the search results, you will see "View Full Details" link, click this for full show details.

It is possible you need to renew your account if you can not see full show details. Go here to renew.

As always, get in touch with customer service if you need help.

To edit or delete a rating you have added, be sure you're logged in and locate the show in "Pro Search"

A quick way to find an individual show is to use the "Key Word" box, at the bottom of the Pro Search form. Enter the event name or promoter name and Click "Search Now." The rating(s) will appear in the event info. Click the rating stars, the rating that you entered will appear with the options: "Edit this Rating" or "Delete this Rating." Click the option you want and proceed from there. If you are editing a rating you must click "Submit Form" for the edit to be completed. If you are deleting a rating you must click "Yes, Delete This Rating" for the process to completed.

In your "Pro Search" search results, show ratings can be found in the upper right corner of the summary box for each event and on the full show details page as well.

Any event or promoter that has been rated, will have yellow stars that you can click to view the ratings. Because our database is so large, many events & promoters have not been rated yet. Only Pro members have access to view detailed ratings.

Show Ratings Tip:
A good way to check on a promoter that you're not familiar with is to use the "More by this Promoter" link that's to the right of the promoter name -- clicking on this will bring up all the events listed by that promoter, so that even if a particular event is unrated, you can quickly scan to see how the promoter's other events rate.

1) After logging in at FestivalNet.com, go to your My Account page page.
2) In the gray sidebar on the right side of the page, click Manage Your E-Lists.
3) You'll then be presented with all of the various newsletters we send out. Check the box for those you wish to receive and uncheck those you do not want to receive.
Export allows you to save the basic contact info from My List to a comma-separated values (csv) file. You can import your list to a spreadsheet, *contact manager or database. Generate mailing labels, run a mail merge or send a group email! Export up to 1,000 events per year! Fields included: Show Dates, Main Email, Promoter Name, Show Name, Attendance, Promoter Mailing Address, Show Director Name, Main Phone, Show Location City & State.

*A contact manager is a database program that is used to manage a list of clients/customers/contacts. Try a Google search like this: "best contact manager programs"

Follow these steps to export your MyList:

A) First, have the events you want to export saved to your My List. (Remember, you can only export 1,000 events total.) Click on "View My List" to see how many events are in your list. To delete events, click "Delete" at the bottom of each event summary.

B) When you're ready to export, click "Export My List." In the box that opens, select 'Save this file to disk' or 'Save to my computer' and click OK.

C) In the next box that opens, you will see the name of the export file, the file type, and where on your computer it will be saved. It is best to save the file to your desktop. Be sure that the file type is '.csv'. If it's not, use the drop-down arrow to change the file type to '.csv'.

D) Click "Save." The export file is now on your computer's hard drive (it might take a minute if your file has many events in it).

You may open this file directly from a spreadsheet program, or import the data into a contact manager or database program. The import command is usually under File > Import. Your software will usually ask you to choose the file type (.csv) and which fields you want imported where.

Please keep in mind that each time you export your My List, the entire list is exported -- not only new events you may have recently added to the list. To export just a few events, those must be the only events in your list.

If you want a tax ID number, you can apply with the federal government (IRS), unless you are a sole proprietor - in which case you may simply use your social security number. You will need to apply to each state (Dept. of Revenue) separately for sales tax numbers to go with your tax ID number.

A vendor license is generally not required if you are participating in festivals, since you will be permitted through the event sponsor. If you were a street vendor in the city of X, not affiliated with a festival, that city might require you to have a vendor license.

For more information on license and tax ID info, check with your local government as well as the festival that you may be vending at.

Once you have logged in and in your "My Account" area, simply click on the "Account Details" option.

Yes. Once you have logged in with your current password and in your "My Account" area, simply click on the "Change Password" option.

An Electronic Press Kit, or "EPK" is a collection of materials used to promote your business, whether you are an artist, musician, craftperson, band, food vendor, other exhibitor or company. Your FestivalNet profile serves as your EPK. Complete your profile by adding bio, photos, music, videos, calendar and blog. The more complete your EPK, the more a promoter can conveniently learn all about you from one easy link.

In the Pro search full show details page, next to the promoter's email address you will notice this link, "send my EPK." Click this link to generate an email from you to the event promoter with a link to your FN profile/EPK.
Use this link to quickly contact festivals you are interested in applying for. Before you use this tool, be sure your FestivalNet profile is complete. From the My Account area, you can modify your profile page (includes your bio), add photos, songs, videos, blog, and calendar.

This functionality needs to work with your default email program on your computer/browser, which you need to have set up first. You will have the chance to add more text to the email containing your EPK before sending the email.

In the "Company Description" field of "Modify Profile", you can embed code (or a widget) to display in your profile. You can also do this in your blog. To do so, just click the html icon and paste the code.

Our members have requested that your materials/mediums or products be listed in the rating to help explain what you do in order to put your rating into context. To edit your materials/mediums or products tags, go to "Modify Profile". You must fill in at least one of those fields, "Medium/Materials" or "Products/Tags".

"Medium/Materials" relates to what you work with or how you work, "Products" relates to what you sell or your service. These are "tags" for your profile.

This is either the date all bookings will be done or the deadline to receive applications (if they use an application process). In either case, contact the event well in advance (4-6 months) of the posted deadline. If a festival is all booked up before their posted deadline, that is the nature of the business.

If the song is an mp3 file (with compression set to 320 kbps max) it is not further compressed. For the best results, make an mp3 from the original, uncompressed recording. If your song file is in a format other than mp3 or exceeds 320 kbps as an mp3, it will be compressed and saved as an mp3. Pro members are allowed a little higher quality compression level.

Event ratings stay live for 3 years and promoter ratings stay up for 4 years.

FestivalNet is not directly involved in transactions between our members, Marketplace buyers, or site visitors and can not be held responsible for negative experiences with individuals or organizations that are part of FestivalNet. We can not mediate or assist in conflicts between members.

We scale your images down so it is not exactly possible to blow them up to a printable size for profit or personal use. Without the source image, in high resolution format, it is near impossible to recreate the image in a high enough quality to print it for display.

All artists who post their work on the web face this concern. Another option is to add a watermark over your image before uploading it.

In your Modify Profile area, you will need to select your Handmade Products designation. After speaking with promoters who allow different levels of handmade products at their events, we developed a percentage scale for you to best represent your items. Please be sure you represent your products correctly.
While commercial and retail items will always be welcome on FestivalNet, it's important not to classify your items as handmade if they are not.
If you've made any part of your product yourself, it is considered handmade. If you've purchased a product from another vendor with the intention of reselling it, it is not considered handmade, even if that person made the item themselves. Handmade items must be something that you made.
If you are not sure about your classification, we can not decide this percentage for you; speak to promoters who allow some percentage of handmade items for feedback.

No, views of your own pages or items when you are logged in are not included in these stats. Pro members can view their profile stats here (which is linked off your 'My Account' area).

If a promoter has not entered deadlines into their event details, we will display "until full" as the default. Get in touch with the event directly to see if they've filled up.

Email addresses on display in our Fest Biz Directory, free event search pages, and community profiles are coded in such a way that they can not be easily harvested by spam bots. The email looks correct to humans viewing the page. Email addresses shown in our pro search area (available to members only) can not be accessed by spam bots.

If you do not see a 'cancel' link in the upper right section of your Account Details, please contact Customer Service for assistance.

Below are things to consider and suggestions to improve your success rate getting replies and/or applications from events:

* Are you contacting the right events for your product/service? Our Pro Search can help you with that. For example, selecting categories from the "Allowed" drop down in the "Exhibitors" box will find events that allow what you do. For more search tips, there's a help link in the top left corner of Pro Search

* Be sure the deadline date has not passed. Contact each event well in advance of their application deadline, otherwise emails & calls will not likely be returned. Use our handy "Deadline Reminder Newsletter" and the "Deadlines" option in Pro search to get ahead of the game.

* Important note about deadlines. It doesn't mean applications will be accepted up until that date. Festivals will frequently fill all open slots before their posted deadline. That's due to no fault of your information source, it's simply the way the business works.

* Check out each event's website for additional application info and specific instructions for successful application acceptance. Always follow each event's requirements exactly as indicated.

* Follow up your initial communication with a phone call. It's important to show continued interest, but be careful not to over do it. Space your follow up calls/messages a week apart. Always call *far before the deadline* to learn what your first step must be with each event.

* Be sure your FN Profile is filled out completely, including clear photos, full company description and is free of spelling errors. Once it is, try using the email EPK link.

In addition to your FN profile, what's the state of your web presence and marketing materials? If you contact an event and they look you up at FestivalNet or do a web search on you and/or your company, what will they find? Will they find anything? Or perhaps find some half baked profiles on different web sites without great looking photos or informative & effective information? If you don't present yourself professionally anywhere people will find you and/or your business, then why would an event take you seriously and want to answer your emails or call you back?! Remember, you ALWAYS only get one chance to make a first impression!

If you get any returned (undeliverable) emails or discover a disconnected phone number, please let us know asap. Contact support@festivalnet.com and we will gladly research that for you. We work very hard to provide accurate event data but sometimes contact info will change.
