20 years ago I purchased a small kit at a farmers market to make rolled paper beads. I was instantly intrigued by this Victorian craft by which women would roll beads from leftover wallpaper using knitting needles and glue. Over the years I have refined my technique to create beads that do not look nor feel like paper. I thoroughly enjoy watching the colors on the chosen paper transform into beautiful, glossy beads.
I started this as a hobby in Michigan and began exhibiting and selling in shows around the the state. These were mainly craft fairs. I began entering juried shows when we moved to Big Sky, Montana. I remember my excitement when I was invited to my first juried event about 14 years ago at the Sweet Pea show in Bozeman, Montana. I was also part of an artist co-OP, Made in Big Sky, for a few years.
I have now been in many juried events in Arizona, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho and Washington both summer and winter months. My husband and I live full time in our motorhome, spending winters in Arizona and summers in Hamilton, Montana. As we roll down the road in our rig, I am busy rolling my beads.
Hand rolled and glazed paper beads using repurposed paper from magazines, brochures, wrapping paper, grocery bags, etc.
