KEVIN DANZIG BIO

"Kevin Danzig still leads the nomadic troubadour's life where stories are indelibly etched within a blink of an eye. Danzig impresses with intriguing songwriting atmospheric vocals and diversely textured arrangements. Danzig has a knack for crafting memorable, tuneful compositions that stretch across a gamut of emotions.”    -- OffBEAT Magazine review by Dan Willging

Kevin Danzig writes and performs modern folk and acoustic rock tunes as well as selected cover songs, accompanied by acoustic guitar, ukulele and harmonica.  He plays tambourine and Porchboard Bass with his foot.  Originality is Danzig's hallmark; Kevin's lyrics are invariably intelligent, the instrumental arrangements are in perfect sync and skillfully executed.

Kevin's fans range from age 3 to 93 and his original songs can be heard on rock, folk, Americana, Inspirational and easy listening stations in North America and are available for digital download at his website.  He is endorsed by ELIXIR STRINGS.

Kevin Danzig makes his home in the mountains of Colorado.  He plays a wide range of venues throughout North America; including clubs, concert halls, festivals, restaurants, college campuses, coffee shops, outdoor arenas, house concerts, corporate events and weddings. In the past 20 years, he has been invited for a return engagement to every venue at which he's performed.

Growing up in a musical family in Southern California, Kevin Danzig has been a performing songwriter nearly his entire life and a professional since the age of 18.  At age 11, Kevin was recording for K-TEL Records (Mike Curb Productions) as one of the jubilant voices of 50 Children's Favorites “As seen on TV”.  It was in 1978, however, that he got his first big...rejection, when Chuck Barris (host of the Gong Show) told him, "Kid, you're TOO GOOD for this show!"

Kevin has finished work on the new album entitled PLAYGROUND.  This title came from the Danzig & Woolley song of the same name.  Madhouse Recorders in Leadville, CO (where it was recorded), owned and operated by his old friend Tim Stroh, is very much a singer/songwriters creative haven. Most of the music was made by Kevin alone, with cameos by Kevin's long-time friend and bass player Ken E. Keller, singer Faith Crawford, drummer Dean Oldencott, guitarist Scooter Barnes, pianist John "ROC" Rothrock and his son Eamon Danzig.  Check the calendar at his website to see where Kevin will be touring.

Kevin has three songs featured on the soundtrack of the cult movie classic, SOULTAKER, and has won five

BILLBOARD MAGAZINE Song Awards.  His song, "HEY DEAN!" (from the “Playground” CD) was featured on the NPR syndicated radio program CAR TALK.  His song “THUMBELINA” was recently included in a collection of children's songs entitled, NO STRINGS ATTACHED.  The proceeds from this CD go directly to UNICEF and to the families affected by the 2013 disaster In the Philippines.  Kevin has recorded nine full length CDs of original material (eight solo and one duet).

His CDs;  PLAYGROUND, LOUD & CLEAR, THE TIME IS RIGHT, BOX CARS, KEVIN DANZIG, WELCOME HOME (“LIVE” FROM THE KERRVILLE FOLK FESTIVAL), LATELY, FREE THE POET and THE KEY (Danzig & Woolley)

are available for sale at his website

LOUD & CLEAR, his previous work, is a collection of his more spiritual songs. It includes several songs from works going back as far as 1986.  They include some newer songs, too, like the title track that Kevin woke up from a dream singing. “It practically wrote itself!”  Produced by Mike West at the Ninth Ward Pickin' Parlor in Lawrence, KS and featuring the musicians that made his BOX CARS album such a success, this one really reaches out and touches the heart of the listener.  Like the 2014 “PLAYGROUND”, this CD includes a fully illustrated booklet of lyrics and pictures.

These past few years have been a busy time for Kevin. The single “SWEET RAIN” (also available on Loud & Clear), calling attention to the BP oil spill in the Gulf Of Mexico and other environmental harm to our planet, garnered airplay in numerous coastal areas of the United States.

The original song “SWEET SAN CLEMENTE” has been claimed by the California city as its official anthem. The song “ON PUBLIC RADIO” was one of 14 songs selected by National Public Radio for a 2015 CD to promote NPR.  Kevin also appeared in the ABC TV holiday movie, THE DOG WHO SAVED CHRISTMAS VACATION, filmed in Keystone, CO.

Kevin's association with author K.E.Pottie and DIGITAL FX Productions out of Salem, CT has resulted in new videos of four songs (also featuring Faith Crawford) that are featured on PLAYGROUND.  His songs can be heard and videos can be viewed at his website

Among fellow singer/songwriters Kevin's performed alongside or opened for are:  John Mayer, Shawn Mullins, Dar Williams, Leon Russell, Edgar Winter, David Wilcox, Ellis Paul, Martin Sexton, Edwin McCain, Bill Staines, Leo Kottke, John Hammond, Chuck Pyle, Trout Fishing in America, Chuck Brodsky, Spencer Bohren, The Bangles, Still on the Hill, Blame Sally, The Radiators, Tish Hinojosa and Mary Gauthier.

Kevin was a Main Stage Performer at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival in 2003 and 2006. His latter performance was recorded and released as “Welcome Home”.  With former partner Cat Woolley (Danzig & Woolley), he played the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival three times. Together they also won the Susquehanna Music & Arts Festival Song Contest.  Kevin has been a finalist in such song contests as Kerrville New Folk (four times), Telluride Troubadour, Napa Valley Emerging Songwriter Showcase, The Rocky Mountain “Folks” Festival Songwriters Competition and the So Florida Folk Festival Emerging Songwriter Competition.

When asked to comment on his "live" performances, Kevin states, "Let's face it, major stardom is not often in the cards for most singer/songwriters. What's important to me is to touch live audiences and radio listeners with my music and lyrics one heart at a time. I want my audience to leave feeling entertained, but also with a melody in their heads they can't seem to shake and if I'm real lucky, a new topic for their next conversation."
