Myong Jung Porcelain

Member Since: November 9, 2017
Festival biz experience: 6+ years

Myong came to the United States to pursue a degree in Fashion Design at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. From this background, she became a couture seamstress
for years in Andover, Massachusetts, making custom gowns for weddings and costume design. In the early 1990s, she discovered the medium of porcelain under Katherine Houston. Since then, she has produced her own original pieces influenced by 18th CenturyEuropean porcelain with china paint.

In 2009, Myong was an artist in residence at the Youngeun Museum of Contemporary Art in Korea, where she shared her creations while experimenting with ancient Korean techniques of ceramics.

An avid mountain climber who is constantly inspired by the bounty and the beauty of nature, Myong continues to build each piece by hand in her current studio at Western Avenue by the Merrimack River in Lowell, Massachusetts. She usually fires her work 5 to 7 times in her kiln, and brings them to life with vibrant hues hand painted with the finest enamel colors. The results are as unique in design as what springs from the Earth, with the artist's attentive touch visible in every aspect of the final product.
