about - Perfect Storm Edutainment, Winston-Salem, NC

Jon Sundell has been performing for over 45 years, in both English and Spanish, across the United States, as well as Europe and Latin America. A veritable ONE MAN FOLK FESTIVAL, Jon presents storytelling, folk music (using guitar, banjo, autoharp, mountain dulcimer, and spoons), square dance calling, and balloon twisting for audiences of all ages. He performs on the main stage for adult or mixed audiences, while also doing smaller, more interactive shows, workshops, singing games and square dancing with children and families. His warm, entertaining style quickly engages an audience, and by interweaving folk tales and songs with his varied instruments, he easily maintains their interest throughout his set. Sometimes he creates balloon figures as he recounts stories about them, then, following his performance, he and his wife create matching balloons for children.

Overlapping with some of his years performing, Jon has also spent many years working as a children's librarian in the public library and schools. As well as introducing him to a huge number of stories, this work helped him develop a greater understanding of and rapport with children, a characteristic frequently noted in his reviews. His  experience in libraries and schools also helped him develop his skills as an "edutainer,"  using his educational background to blend together information and insight with entertainment. Because of his storytelling skills and interactive style, the educational piece not only complements, but heightens the entertainment quality, creating a "perfect storm of edu-tainment!"
