Our mission is to build community by providing a safe, creative space to learn the art of quilting. We give quilts to members of the community who suffer physical, mental and/or emotional hardships. “Quilting for Community is committed to sharing the craft of quilting to ALL ages no matter race, creed, religion or socioeconomic status. Intergenerational collaboration, creativity and giving is our goal” – Lizz Leral, Executive Director
Our goals are multi-layered in that we focus on inter-generational collaboration. We engage teens by having them design their own textile. We then pair them with quilt vets to design a quilt together. We showcase finished quilts and then donate to various organizations and/or individuals who may be suffering emotional, mental and/or physical hardships including, but not limited, to Patients of local hospital NICUS, PICUS and Cancer Centers.
We are run by volunteers and donations. Our free workshops are held at Kingdom Sewing & Vacuum in Northridge, CA. Participants include students from the charter high school, Opportunities for Learning, Guests of the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission and anyone who drops in on any given Wednesday or Friday from 10am -1pm.
