They say it all starts with something, and here at The Hot Spot Bakery Cafe, it started with a dream...a little bit of flour, some eggs, and a lot of butter. Turns out, when you throw all those ingredients into the mixer with a dash of ambition and bake at 350 for 20 minutes, it's amazing what can happen. A Sweet Roll is born. You know, it's funny - I think life is a lot like a fresh baked good - starts with an idea, a taste for something great and as you build just the right recipe and pull it out of the oven - it is glorious. In the glory, like in life, you may find that something is missing - something could be a little bit better - something needs to change. It is said that the one thing constant in life is change and you better believe this concept is embraced to its core. From the first conception of the idea, baking goods for folks to enjoy, it was known that baking sweet goods wasn't the only direction this recipe for a more fulfilling life was going. It is clear now that Shannon has built a flock of faithful Sweet Roll eaters, a diehard carb loving community if you will, and isn't slowing down. Let it be known - at The Hot Spot Bakery Cafe's residential, with a slightly commercial appearance, kitchen more goes down than you can fathom. Leading up to the 'big moment' each Friday is a REALLY big dining room table, the help of a household full of kids who are all eager to help their matriarch accomplish the myriad of tasks of the morning...tasks that are all essential to get her to the parking lot with a trunk full of carefully boxed delectable Sweet Rolls for her flock. Butter in the mixer churning, icing being prepared, rolls rising, oven heating up, rolls in the oven, boxes being assembled, stickers being applied, trays of rolls cooling, icing being poured, all while kids ranging in age from 6 to 16 make their way in and out of the kitchen and dining room with their own agendas. One heading out to feed the chickens, one jammin' to country music in their ear buds, one carrying his overnight bag, one flipping her flawless and perfectly conditioned hair and showing off her photography portfolio, one up late in the AM after being at football the previous day, one just chillin' and taking it all in, and one searching for peppers to make himself some eggs....yes, he also made sure his momma had some eggs too, all in the midst of this dream. The dream is always changing, growing, and taking new shape with the energy around it - it is thriving and shows no signs of slowing down. As much as Shannon is giving life to The Hot Spot Bakery Cafe, it is also breathing new life into Shannon. She is thriving - she is building a recipe for the perfectly baked life and she wants you to come along.
