Career Boosting Strategies to Jump Start 2007
New Year - New Strategies
The start of a new year is a good time to create some strategic plans for the months ahead. Put your career on the success track by doing the following exercise:
Answer these questions:
1. What is your purpose in life?
I know, this is a big question! But, when you think about it, isn't it really THE question? It is worth your time to answer this question as you focus on the months ahead. Take your time and really be clear about this, and so many of the things that seem challenging now, will begin to fall into place. We all have a single purpose. Understanding what your's is and refining and focusing that purpose, helps to clarify all the other actions you need to do to fulfill your purpose. The first step is to clearly state your purpose.
2. What do you want to accomplish this year?
This comes down to setting goals- Believable, Achievable, Measurable, Time-Based Goals - that are in alignment with your purpose and help you serve your purpose. Perhaps you have set your goals last year, or even reviewed them on January 1st. I am finding that as I look at my statement of purpose and rewrite my goals everyday, I am more motivated, more focused and more clear about what I need to do to make them a reality.
3. How are you going to achieve your goals?
This is the action portion of your year. One way to get you thinking creatively about this question, is to begin making lists. Take a piece of paper or get a small notebook. Head the top of a page with the question:
How will I achieve my goal of _________?
Then number the left side of the page from 1-21. Now think of 21 ideas that can help you accomplish this goal. This is a great method of getting you to expand your thinking. Don't edit your thoughts. Let your ideas fly- brainstorm! Find ideas that are new and that you haven't dared try before. When you complete the list, you will find some exciting new actions that you can begin New Year - New Strategies to Bo.ems king on right away, that are sure to move you closer to reaching your goals. Use this method with every new goal or project and you will begin to see incredible movement toward success in everything you choose to do.
As creative people, it is most important for us to be creative in all aspects of our lives. The business side of your career is no different. Perhaps you shy away from focusing on some of the more challenging aspects of your business in favor of the comfortable and the easily accomplished. Once you clarify your main purpose and complete the above exercises, you will begin focusing on creative ways to fulfill your main purpose. Do something, even one thing, everyday that moves you closer to fulfilling your main purpose in life.

The movie interviews many of the worlds well known entrepreneurs, writers and scientists such as Jack Canfield, author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. The film's subject is, The Law of Attraction - what we think about and focus on, we bring about and attract into our lives. I found it to be incredibly inspiring and validating. I hope you will too.
Make this a year of planning before acting, thinking creatively to find new strategies before repeating the old standbys, that may or may not be working. The hours you spend planning creatively, will focus your efforts, reduce time-wasting distractions and move you ever closer to getting what you truly desire for your career and for your life.
