As we celebrate our 20th birthday, it's fun to reflect on little factoids from 1996 when the office was in the basement of owners Kurt and Connie's house, and the festivals list was a printed guide and a PDF download. They also worked on the expansion of the show database in the motorhome between events. Twenty years is pretty vintage when you think about where the internet was then. Google started up two years later in 1998 and FestivalNet was a big advertising customer in those early years. "They sent us a portable mini fridge with the Google logo that first year for Christmas. They sent a smaller gift the next year, but we haven't heard from them since. :)" says Connie. In 1998, you could download a PDF of festival info for $39, only $10 less than the cost of our Pro Level 1 membership today. In fact the Pro Membership price hasn't increased in 14 years.
Leading up to the millennium, FestivalNet published 5,000+ events, which was when the searchable database first went online. That's when things really started to take off and we soon jumped to 10,000+ US events, thanks to Connie's relentless efforts at that time. We transitioned to completely real time access by 2001, allowing festivals to do their own updates, and began offering Canadian events in 2003. From a staff of 2 to 9 and currently boasting 26,000+ North American events, FestivalNet continues to evolve while staying true to its mission of offering our members the most details on more fairs and festivals than any other service, while also maintaining the best customer service and personal care available anywhere. The FestivalNet team has had 3 offices (and is now completely virtual), 10 office pets, three logos, one trademark, hundreds of newsletters, 77 giving tree apples, and 200,000+ members! Happy Birthday FestivalNet!
