Raku Vase

One of a Kind
$60
This Vase is 7 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches wide at the mouth. Raku is a special firing process using special glazes. In Raku firing, a piece is brought to 1800 degrees (F) and taken from the kiln, red hot and put in a metal container with combustibles. The process blackens the unglazed areas of the piece and special Raku glazes take on interesting textures and colors. In this piece, I used crackle clear and crackle red glaze along with matte peacock to create a piece with textural interest, graceful lines and movement. The pattern is achieved using thin tape, called washu tape which is removed after glazing the piece. The areas that are taped turn black when the piece is fired.
