Festival Network Online - Find detailed info on art fairs, craft shows, music festivals, & more events

April 2012
In the music business, connections are everything. This month we're going to look at a great site that can help you make these connections. Musicpage.com's has been giving us some fantastic advice on getting your band off the ground, now let's take a look at what else they have to offer.

Have you listed any of your merch in the FNO Marketplace yet? It's free to list and you only pay a small fee when your item sells. Read more about fees here.

As always, if you have any particular topics you'd like to see covered here, or if you'd like to contribute an article to the FNO newsletters - drop me a line!

Happy rockin'!

It's All About Who You Know

By David Codr Founder of Musicpage.com

The music industry has an old expression; "Its not what you know. Its who you know."

But finding music industry pros has always been difficult. After all, these people literally work behind the scenes. Its not like there is some website you can go to and get their bio, photos, work history, phone numbers, etc.

Well actually there is a new website that offers all that. Its www.Musicpage.com, a national online community of thousands of music industry professionals, musicians, bands and businesses.

Unlike a facebook page, Musicpage profiles are guaranteed to include a phone number along with the person's work history, a summary of their skills and more.

Musicpage also features group profiles for over 40 different types of businesses; producers, promoters, agents, managers, record labels, tour managers, entertainment attorneys, distributors, music publishers and of course band and solo performer profiles.

These profiles include all kinds of production specifications that can't be found elsewhere. For example, you can search for live music venues that book specific types of music, have music on specific nights or allow underage fans to see shows there. Here is a venue profile example; http://www.musicpage.com/waitingroom

On top of thousands of profiles that include hard to find music industry contacts, Musicpage lets its users add their own private notes to any profile. No more scribbling down notes on a piece of paper you lose or cant find later. Next time you go to that profile to get their phone number, your notes are saved right there for you.

Musicpage's band / solo performer group profiles are free to create and become a de facto Electronic Press Kit as all the artist's contacts (agent, manager, publicist, tour manager) are linked to the profile.

Bands and solo performers can upload their songs, photos, bio and tour dates along with detailed performance and production specs (Average draw, CD's released, CDs sold, etc) to their profile. Just creating a profile makes you easy to find and promotes you to promoters, talent buyers and other music pros who are looking for up and coming artists.

Some other cool features Musicpage offers to help musicians with their careers.

  • Gig Swapping: Users who are linked to a band or solo performer profile can post Gig Swap's in the markets they are looking to play in. Bands in that market see your post, which is linked to your band profile. If they think you are a good match, they contact you directly to work out the trade details. This is a great way to get into new markets you haven't played in before.
  • Industry Classifieds: Lets users post ads for bands or musicians wanted, Announcements, gear or instruments for sale, etc.
  • SID: The Stolen Instrument Database or S.I.D. allows users to create a stolen instrument report complete with photos, description, key data like; serial number, finish, police report number, reward details and the owner's contact information. The post stays on the Musicpage system until you get your gear back.

The best part about Musicpage is completely free to join or use. They do have an All Access membership you can upgrade to, but its an option you probably only need if your a regional or national touring artist.

So the next time you need to find a musician or music pro, search for them on Musicpage.com.

Or better yet, create your own free profile now so those music pros can find you!
