                                                       About Me
I was introduced to my first 35 mm camera in the early 80’s. This led me to take all the
photography classes available at Sierra College, in California, where I learned film development
and darkroom manipulation while becoming acquainted with my camera.
My first choice for a subject was nature, which became my favorite.
When digital technology was introduced, I chose to retire my film
and embrace what would become a new form of art. I learned to use the digital camera,
studied composition, color and design, all of which I use together when creating my Art.
When my sons came along, my hobby turned to documenting their lives. Years were
spent photographing children; something I found very rewarding. The spontaneity and
love-of-life, children represent make it easy to capture precious moments. There were
sports activities, Cub Scout functions and classroom parties. I loved sharing my images
with families and their children.
Once my sons became adults, I found myself drifting back to nature and my love of the
outdoors. It also allowed me time to learn new photo enhancing software to enrich my
images. My art was born!

There has been controversy regarding whether you should consider images captured with a digital camera or manipulated with photo-shop software as “photography.”

I’d like to share my thoughts where that is concerned. I have worked in the darkroom, processing film, used techniques while developing film itself to cause interesting effects. It seems to me, I am doing much the same thing when I use photoshop to enhance or manipulate my images. The following is a quote from a Photographic Artist, I admire.

“Many traditionalists in the field of photography balk at post-processing; asserting that such manipulation by software programs (e.g., Photoshop) undermine the integrity of photography as an art form. However, these esoteric views are quickly falling by the wayside. Legendary black and white photographers, such as Ansel Adams, spent weeks manipulating their images in the darkroom. Let the truth be told …post processing occurred way before the digital era and Photoshop. Manipulation through a computer or manipulation in the darkroom using chemicals…in the end, it’s all post-processing. Seems to me that anything which enhances the viewer’s experience of a photograph is a good thing, no?”

Natalie Mikaels

I continue to learn new techniques to better convey my vision through photographic art. What
is most rewarding to me is producing images that touch the soul,   It’s a way to share how I see
the world. My hope is you enjoy the vision in my art.
