We started going to craft shows and we(husband)and me figured we could do that kind of stuff. So we started with Kleenex box covers - looks like a cat. We did pretty good and we were hooked on craft shows. The one thing we noticed was the lack of stuff for boys, there was so much for girls so my husband started making little wooden cars our own design and they sold pretty good for many years. And so we crafted and did shows and enjoyed ourselves to no end, and we got to eat some of the best and worse hot dogs. Meeting people was a plus we had not counted on ,we met fellow crafters and all types of people and many came back each year to see what we had new or just to say hi. We expanded into wood items, made lots of pumpkins, hand painted and sealed and lots of other things. My thing was sewing from aprons to hot pot holders ,doll clothes (which) I still do to pillows. Along the way our son joined us. He scroll saws wood items..no laser..Sadly my husband passed away and I got away from shows for awhile but I'm going to try this year,a little late to be looking for shows but it'll work out.I now have a daughter with me working on paper craft. That's it . I'm back at my kitchen table going for another year.
