Rosarito Beach, which is beginning to enjoy a world wide reputation as Baja's most art friendly town, is getting ready to welcome guests to ROSARITO ART FEST 2015 on May 23rd and 24th.
2015 will be the 6th year that Rosarito Beach will celebrate Memorial Day weekend by hosting what has grown into the biggest art fair of Northern Baja. Painters, sculptors and photographers will come together to exhibit and sell their work to more than 12,000 enthusiastic visitors.
This year Memorial Day weekend comes early, May 23th and 24th. 2 blocks of Benito Juarez Boulevard, in the festive center of Rosarito, will be pedestrian only for the weekend in order to accommodate more than 120 tents and a massive stage. Paintings by world class artists, performance art, Mexican handcrafts, eclectic happenings and tasty examples of Mexican cuisine will be the main attractions from 10am to 8pm each day..
In addition to artists from the Tijuana- Rosarito- San Diego- LA region, over the years Rosarito Art Fest has attracted the talents of foreign artists from far places like Singapore ( Robin Low), Argentina (Claudia Cogo), Boston (Maurice Derrick) and Colombia (Nelson Ortega). This year artists from Long Beach, soon to be Rosarito's newest Sister City, will also be exhibiting.
Representing the best of the local arts community, artists who have been popular at previous Art Fests, include Carlos Coronado, Álvaro Blancarte, Miguel Najera, Juan Ángel Castillo, Valra, Franco Méndez Calvillo, María Evangelina Rodríguez and David Silvah. Each of these artists has been previously honored with solo exhibits in important cultural spaces such as “Cubo Gallery” at the Tijuana Cultural Center and the Museum of the Living Artist in San Diego, California.
Through the years, the Rosarito Art Fest has also hosted many of the most talented performance artists of the region who represent a diverse range of disciplines including opera, classical music, jazz, Flamenco, Tango, and Folklore. Among the famous artists who have sharer the stage over the years are the Orquesta de Baja California, Madame Ur y sus hombres, Opera de Tijuana, Cuatro para Tango, Gabriela Bojorquez, and Pendulo Cero. This cadre of performance artists have represented Baja around the world including performances in Argentina, Japan and various U.S. cities.
The 2015 festival will proudly debut a special street gallery showcasing the work of the 2015 tributed artists who are Manuel Lizárraga, Pablo Beltrán "Pabel" and photographer Vidal Pinto.
