The next couple of months will be devoted to Toys for Tots and the Blue Star Mothers. Both are on a fund drive for not only dollar donations, but also food to send to our troops over seas.
There will be two more shows for me this year. The first will be at the Bonnie Dallas Senior Center on November 7, 2009, The Second on November, 14 2009 at the Civic Center sponsored by the Does Drove. Both are here in Farmington. All proceeds will be given to the Toys for Tots. I will also be accepting food and personal items for the Blue Star Mothers during the shows.
Toys for Tots gave a CHRISTmas to almost 1000 boys and girls in my area who would not have had anything. What a wonderfully warm feeling to share the joy of the children's faces. This year I was asked to be Mrs. Santa. Because of the amount of boys and girls last year, Santa needs help. I feel honored.
The Blue Star Mothers is new to me. The first thing I helped with was to fill boxes to send to our troops over seas. How rewarding is that? We are now collecting food items and other personal items along with "hug" letters to send to our troops.
We have some Gold Star Mothers in our area too. I designed a pendant for these mothers. They have given so much for the freedom we share. They will be presented the pendant during a dinner meeting to honor them. I do hope I will not need to make any more of these pendants. It hurts my heart to know a life has been lost.
For those who do not know about the Star Mothers, the Blue Star Mothers have sons and daughters in the military. The Gold Star Mothers have lost a son or daughter in active duty.
Here's wishing both Toys for Tots and the Blue Star Mothers do well with our efforts to make others feel the love we have for them.
