In my art I utilize the ancient method of marble painting to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind fabrics and altered couture clothing. The art of marbling, or "Ebru" as it is known in Turkey, dates back hundreds of years to the 10th century. Scholars believe that it originated in Bukhara, Turkestan. Marbling was used to decorate the inside cover of books in their early creation. They were used for decorative purposes, and also as a background for official documents and signatures, to prevent erasure and forgery. With the introduction of acrylic paints in the mid 1950's, new uses for marbling expanded, no longer relegated to book art exclusively. Marbling has been enjoying a revival in Western Europe and in the U.S.A. recently.
