Barbara Harmer-Painting With Paper, Cleveland, TX
While living in Kanazawa, Japan for 7 years, I studied "Chigirie" (chee-gee-ree-ay) the art of tearing and cutting handmade Japanese paper known as "Washi", to make pictures. There are thousands of colors, weights, and textures of paper. Some papers have natural inclusions such as fibers, threads, flowers, and grasses.
These pictures look as though they were done in watercolor and acrylic, although NO PAINT is used in my "paintings". They are on artists canvas ranging from 16"x20" up to 4 feet x 5 feet. The paper is wrapped around the sides of the canvas, so that no framing is necessary unless you choose to do so.
