I learned how to build fishing rods in the early 1990's but my full time job kept me so busy I stopped building rods by 1994. I am now approaching retirement age and decided I wanted to get back into building fishing rods as a part time retirement business. About 3 years age I build an new 2 story garage and set up the entire upstairs a my rod building shop. I started building rods again for myself and friends. I subscribed to trade magazines and attended some classes at a rod building conference in N. Carolina. I have since developed some of my own tools, jigs, and techniques. One of the products I'm very proud of is the “Keepsake” rod. A friend of mine purchases a gift certificate for his wife's birthday. She and I talked about what she wanted for a rod and I offered to incorporate pictures of her 5 grandchildren on the rod. After much trial and error I produced a real one of a kind fishing rod. It turned out to be just what she was looking for and the “Keepsake” rod was born. That rod is showcased on my website www.outcastcustomrods.com. Please check it out. I continue to learn with each rod I build and am very proud of my product. I use American made components almost exclusively.
Thank you,
