Shirley Troilo never had thoughts of painting until the summer of 2018. She thought it would be fun to take a painting class with friends. The summer passed without one. Early September while strolling through Hobby Lobby, her husband picked up a small set of acrylic paint and handed it to her. He said, “you have been talking about painting why don't you try it out”. He told her to grab a pre-sketched canvas first because a blank canvas could be intimidating. She picked up a small pack of blank canvases just in case she felt up to the challenge.
Shirley went home and finished the painting that afternoon. The next day she ventured to paint some aspen trees, over the course of the next year she completed over 100 paintings. The artistic passion was flourishing. Not only was she selling art but was being solicited for commissions at a steady rate. There was no other explanation for the talent but a gift from the Lord. I knew it was divinely inspired, which was the obvious name for the company. It may be my hand on the brush, but it is His hand guiding mine and imparting the visions of subject matter.
A few years prior her career desires were to move up the corporate ladder to senior management. Despite striving and completing an MBA, all doors remained closed. God can take your plans and turn them upside down. Her career desires relied upon my efforts. Through the gift of painting all the Glory was His, she recalls she could not even draw a straight line and had no clue about color mixing. Yet her skills were rapidly coming together. There were times she would step back from a painting and be in awe of what she was looking at, no way could that be of my effort. It could only be of the Lord. Thankful that she continues to grow and explore challenging work.
In the Fall of 2018, Shirley was elected to the Mountain Valley Arts Council as a Board Member where she served for a little over 2 years. She enjoyed working with the team and the many artists to learn and deepen her skills. Shirley's art was displayed with other collections 4 different times at the Guntersville Gallery. During this time, she taught art classes to small groups and held private lessons.
