Salgado's works are often inspired by her studies and artists like Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Edgar Degas. As a musician and researcher, she is interested in Western Music of the 19th century and beyond, as well as the development of Mexican Art Music. Currently, she is working on the series: Nuestra vida: La Cultura de los Chicanos.
