"I am going to keep it unpredictable & create my own style. That way, they don't know what's coming next & most of the time, neither do I."
~ Kevin Hawley: Recusant Studios ℧ Artist/ Owner
Kevin Hawley, originally from Dayton, OH, is a self-taught Floridian oil painting artist. His extent of "training" before picking up the oil & brushes in 2001, was doodles & sketches with pens & pencil. Kevin attended school in 1999 for Electronics Engineering, which is where his studio symbol originates from. The mho symbol is a representation of capacitance, which means the ability to store energy. This is how he views his work... storing light & energy for the masses to enjoy through the passing of time. This symbol also represents the "R" & "S" in Recusant Studios.
One of his personal favorite oil paintings, "The Overseer", was showcased on Instagram by the Winsor & Newton company & some of his work has been featured at prominent artists' social pages. In November of 2023, Kevin entered his first Judged Art Show in Cabarrus, North Carolina at the Clearwater Arts Center & Studio where he featured 3 pieces of work which can be viewed here on his website & on his pages at Facebook & Instagram.
In 2022 & 2023 Kevin conducted his first en plein air paintings while traveling abroad in Germany, France & Spain, & in the future will become part of his repertoire.
He has completed over 30 pieces of art in the 3 years he's been painting. In that same time, teaching himself all of the technical aspects of oil painting, built a studio business from the ground up & designed & implemented his own unique & comprehensive website.
