Our first venue was a success! We had a blast. Thank you to anyone who may have come by to see us, we thank you for your patronage! I learned a lot. The first time is the most difficult right? Looking forward to seeing some of you festival goers out there in the future! Hope you had a great holiday.
This is pretty crazy! I am 56 year old mother of 2 grown children and I'm starting a cotton candy business! From scratch! I'm so excitedscaredconfusedanxiousoverwhelmed! This is how it started:
I have always loved baking, well, anything food but, especially baking. I was in the medical field for nearly 20 years. Props to them because they helped me raise my family. In 2019 my job was eliminated! Huge corporate takeover, my position was sent to a foreign country. I saw it as an opportunity to make a change in my life. So, I decided to go to pastry school! I figured why not? WHY NOT do something that I love doing and make money doing it, right? Not just chasing the almighty dollar in order to make ends meet every month, month after month.
I LOVED pastry school. I learned so much, and it was like just playing in the kitchen every day. I used to take VACATION to do my baking every year during the holidays. I looked forward to it. I was finally doing something creative on a daily basis. I had a position lined up for externship and then, WHAM! - COVID struck. Unemployment ran out. Classes were moved online. Do you know how difficult it is to learn pastry online? Well, learning isn't the hard part. If we can learn from YouTube, and I do, then I suppose you can learn from an accredited school. Anyhoo, I eventually got into cake decorating and decided, you know what? I would like to have the freedom to be my own boss, make my own hours, be as busy as I want! Do you have any idea how many home cake decorators there are in Oklahoma? A plethora, let me tell you.
A couple of years ago I ran across a video of the people making the cotton candy flowers in foreign countries? I fell in love with cotton candy. It's really such a versatile thing! Loved by children and adults! Princes and princesses! It makes a lovely wedding addition, whether it be a full on cotton candy vendor or just a little gift to send home with your guests! There's nothing better to cheer someone up than a fluffy cone out of the blue. But I digress, again. Did a lot of research, thought about starting a company and put it on the back burner. Me? Start a company? Impossible!
Fast forward two years: I'm doing it. I have my first event booked. I. have. my. first. event. booked. I don't have a fancy food truck. I have a tent, a machine, and the will. I have hit many speed bumps over the last week. Most of all, I am loving every minute of it. The even I am doing is on the 4th of July. There will be many big players with big fancy food trucks. I will be in my little tent. And I am so proud to be a part of it.
So yeah, I will be looking for more events to book! None are too small! Please feel free to contact me for any or all of your cotton candy needs. Have a nice day :}
