Harrelson Woodturning, Social Circle, GA
I am a woodturner from Social Circle, GA. I used to be a truck driver, until becoming disabled from a spinal cord injury in 2001. After feeling sorry for myself for several years, a very dear friend asked me if I was just going to sit in my wheel chair and do nothing for the rest of my life. I did not know of anything that I could do. She encouraged my to try my hand at woodturning. I fell in love with the the art of woodturning, and now I am once again able to travel and meet new people at art shows in the Southeastern United States.
I am constantly amazed at the beauty of wood. When I start turning a piece, I may have a general idea of what I intend to make. But sometimes the wood has a different idea of what it wants me to make!
I never cut down trees for the purpose of turning. I only use wood from trees which have been damaged by storm or disease. The beauty of the tree can continue long after the tree has died.
