Hernan Hergis grew up in Bogota, the capital of Colombia. Home to the famous painter Fernando Botero, the cosmopolitan hub has a rich culture that was seminal to Hergis's interest in art. His talent was evident as a child and developed at the Liceo Luna Park School of Art in Bogota. Like Botero and so many artists, he first painted landscapes then quickly moved on to more dramatic subject matter like carnival fantasies. Hergis found preference in lively acrylic colors for his large-scale works that give him greater latitude to express his evocative images.
