Maritza Furiatti Newman was born in Brazil but has lived in the US for over 31 years. Growing up in a family of artists, she always appreciated the craft and experimented with several mediums. In the early 90's, she began working with watercolors and fell in love. She exchanged paper for silk after being introduced to painting on fabric by her aunt and cousin who developed their own technique for painting silk. Maritza loved that she could marry her passion for watercolors with items that could be worn.
Taking inspiration from nature, Maritza's work is intended to bring cheerfulness to those who wear items from her collection. Using a combination of salt, sugar and other ingredients, Maritza transforms white fabric into elegant, vibrant wearables. Most of her work is painted on silk. Maritza believes each person is one of a kind and that should be reflected in what they wear.
