I've been making jewelry since the 80s. Over the years I've received compliments from a wide variety of people, from sales ladies in jewelry stores to a man working in the security line at the Nashville airport. When I proudly tell them that I made it I'm usually asked for a business card.
Until recently I have just made jewelry for myself, family and friends. Over the past few months I've been selling a lot my pieces at work and do custom orders. My clients say that when they receive compliments they love being able to tell people that the piece was custom made for them.
While wearing the first necklace that I made I was asked if I sell my jewelry. That question planted a little seed in my mind. Would people actually buy my jewelry if I marketed it? Over the years I continued making my jewelry for myself, family and friends and I continued to be asked if I sold it.
Over the years, that little seed of an idea that was planted in my brain while wearing that first necklace has grown.
I've formed a company. I'm getting my products out to the public. I'm exhibiting at craft fairs, creating a website and adding pieces to my Etsy shop.
Now when I receive a compliment on my jewelry I thank the person and give them my business card.
