OM Valley Earthworks - Cincinnati, OH
Destinee has been working with clay since she was a child of 8. This is a vital part of her heritage therefore she is instinctively involved in preserving both the aesthetic and pragmatic intents of her ancestors. Being of Native American descent, it has always seemed natural for Destinee to work in harmony with the earth and the elemental forces of nature. Experiencing the tactile sensations of raw clay, mingled with fire, she carves out a deeply rooted and fundamental artistic response.
Destinee has a simple approach to everyday life (although she perceives the complexities inherent in everything.) She expresses this energy by giving her own, personalized and sometimes whimsical spin on an Ancient Indigenous Art. The Ohio and Miami Valley tribes were well known for the practical clay vessels that they hand-built from coils dating back to pre-historic times. Destinee has been using the same elements and techniques to express what she now feels in this modern age.
The Ancient Cultures of America recognized and communicated using many carved symbols and pictographs on their pottery. These have been the inspiration for the carvings on her High-fired Stoneware. Using raw materials taken directly from nature and mixing them with her imaginative and holistic ideas, Destinee creates her art.
