I have been enjoying making things from wood for over 30 years now and still love the experience of taking raw wood logs, boards, even scrap or reclaimed wood and turning it into objects both beautiful and useful. Let me tell you about our mugs (some folks call 'em tankards or steins). Basically I make two very different types of mugs. The first is what I'd call a tapered octagonal shaped mug. (Really, I just call it my drinking mug.) They are made with eight wooden sides (hence octagonal!), a wooden bottom fit into the sides and a hand carved and shaped wooden handle or sometimes I install a deer antler handle.
