Ritual Sister, Oakland, CA
As a self-taught artist and designer, beadwork has become my meditation. It is a material ritual. Matter changing matter. Bead by bead, with the thread of connection to all that has come before me, to be a part of generative flow of timeless creation. This is a sacred act, a kind of daily rhythmic practice that brings me back into connection to with my own essence.
I spent some time working for the amazing and talented, Jen Lorang, of Alchemilla Jewelry as their first full time bead production artist. I have taken metalsmithing and lost wax casting classes at Silvera Studios and learned leather crafting with Meredith of Mermade Bags. I also studied a variety of traditional indigenous crafts at North House Folk School. My insatiable interest for material craft comes from a deep knowing that indigenous peoples have lived in connection to the land in ways that are not only sustainable but intimately connected to Spirit. I whole-heartedly believe in reparations and re-matriating the land back to indigenous peoples.
