Ruth's Creative Sundries is a variety of handmade items. My hats are made from a variety of textiles, completely hand made. Yes, on my very own sewing machine. They include men, women and children. Included in the textile are scarves and wraps. Each detail on the item is handmade by me, including flowers, ribbon accents, and hand painting. I take some of the ribbon detail from a 1920's "Ribbon Art" book. Some of the hats are from Vogue's Vintage patterns.
Knitted items include scarves and shawls, slippers and whatever catches my eye.
My personal background includes: pastel portraiture, furniture refurbishing, sewing, knitting, and weaving. I have sewn and knitted since I was 5 years old. My mother who was British) started me on a treadle sewing machine with her fabric scraps. She also handed me a ball of navy blue yarn and two double point knitting needles. With this she would teach me a stitch have me rip it out and then learn a new stitch. My father taught me how to sketch. He included me in his workshop wherein, I learned about paint, tools, assembly, wiring and more.
I am thankful for my parental teaching and am passing it on to my grandchildren.
