Scenic Impressions - Bates City, MO
I was born and raised in Northeast Florida but have called the Midwest my home for over the last 30 years, and currently reside with my wife a few miles east of Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
After acquiring a used Petri 35mm camera and access to a dark room in the early 1970’s, I soon developed an ever increasing passion for photography as a means of creative expression. Over the years I have worked in 35mm, 645 and 6x7 medium format, as well as 4x5 large format mediums. With the recent rapid advances in digital technology though I now exclusively work with digital SLR capture.
Largely self taught, I was influenced by black and white icons Ansel Adams, Brett Weston and color icons Elliot Porter, and later Mark Muench and Art Wolfe. Over time I developed a fondness for wide angle perspectives and often use foreground elements to help add a sense of depth to my images. I have an evolving interest in the western landscapes, but believe the United States overall is blessed with some of the most diverse and beautiful landscape in the world. I photograph what moves me but it is the enjoyment others have in my work that inspires me to continue my pursuit.
