Band of world renowned musicians combinining Jazz and World music fusion with roots in the music of South Africa. Highlights include appearances at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival; Eppcott Center Disneyworld; LA's The Getty Museum; Hudson Clearwater Revival Festival; Philadelphia Folk Festival and Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts; Ghana's Panafest; National Womens Music Festival in Madison, Wisconsin; Ordway International Children's Festival, St. Paul; Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concerts in New York City and tours across the United States, Canada, Alaska, South Africa, Ghana and Middle East. The band is led by Sharon Katz who performed for Nelson Mandela and founded "The Peace Train" in South Africa. Katz has toured with Ladysmith Black Mambazo; performed for Nelson Mandela and is a often joined by legends such as bass player with Paul Simon Bakithi Kumalo as well as other great divas of South Africa namely Miriam Makeba, Dolly Rathebe and Abigail Kubeka. She has also performed alongside Pete Seeger and Peter Yarrow in the United States. Her music is lively and upbeat and she is an African guitarist of note. The band earned a Grammy nomination for the CD "Imbizo" and has several CDs to their credit. They were also featured on"Carnival" a compilation featuring Sting, Tina Turner and Elton John. A docomentary about Sharon Katz & The Peace Train will be released in early 2014 to coincide with the 20th anniversary of The Peace Train and South Africa's Democracy.
