The Awakened Foundation was created out of the realization that there are far too many people that are unaware of the serious environmental dangers we face. We are in serious danger of the earth becoming uninhabitable to humans and many other species of life. We can already see the number of natural disasters increasing and they come with greater intensity. Thousands of people have lost their lives or been displaced from their homes, hundreds of thousands of species of animals have been forced into extinction and things are only going to get worse.

We believe that we must “turn off the tap” and stop all of the destruction caused by the waste produced from over consumption. We have already depleted 80% of the worlds natural forests and scientists speculate that we have about 12 years to make some serious changes before climates worsen beyond repair. Our goal is to educate people about this very serious danger we face, while inspiring them to live more fulfilled lives in harmony with the natural world.

The Festival

Our DEGROWTH FEST allows us to bring communities together unified in our belief in the preservation of the Earth for generations to come. Through the power of music and consciously-aware artists the DEGROWTH FEST will reach the masses with the message of degrowth and the hope of a more sustainable and just society. The Festival aims to raise awareness of the imminent dangers that we face if we continue to ignore the limitations of Earth's resources, and more importantly, to inspire people to action with forward-thinking, yet simple, approaches to environmental issues.

The DEGROWTH FEST is zero waste, has a 5-step recycling system, composting stations, uses composting toilets, water filing stations, powered entirely by solar power, and has many innovative ways of teaching attendees degrowth strategies. Vendors will not be allowed to utilize any single use plastics such as plastic bags, straws and plastic utensils; instead patrons will be gifted bamboo utensils and hemp shopping bags. Additionally, the Festival offers attendees the chance to win VIP tickets if they carpool with four or more people.

The most important aspect of the Festival is that it's a fundraiser for the real work. The income generated at this Festival will allow us to work on projects that have the capacity to greatly impact the future of humanity. From wide spread campaigns to small local events, our strategies influence major change. With every clean-up project we conduct, every new recycling system we set in place, every new tree that we plant, every community garden, urban farm or educational space we create for the community; we extend the longevity of life here on Earth.
