The Carpenter Ants are West Virginia's premier R&B/gospel-soul band. The group's trademark country-soul sound – rich, soulful harmonies, stinging solos and a rock-solid rhythm section – captures that rare, loose-but-tight feel, and has won the band international as well as regional fans. They've been called "Appalachian Soul”.

The band has toured Moscow and Slovakia three times and has appeared on NPR's “Mountain Stage” numerous times, both as a featured act and backing other performers. Lipton has served as the electric guitarist for the Mountain Stage house band for 37 years.

They have toured in the U.S. and Europe backing rock legend Kevin Coyne, and played with original NRBQ guitarist Steve Ferguson off-and-on for 15 years. They have opened shows for the Blind Boys of Alabama, Bill Kirchen, the Continental Drifters, Paul Thorn, Southern Culture on the Skids, Duke Robillard, Terry Evans, Charlie Musselwhite, the Holmes Brothers, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Gov't Mule, Peter Case, NRBQ, the Spampinato Brothers, Delbert McClinton, the Roches, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

The group's current release, the Don Dixon-produced “Tearin' Down The House,” is a harmony 'n' rhythm-rich two-disc celebration of American music with guests including Paul Thorn and Shemekia Copeland.
