The Tye Dye Guy has participated in hundreds of shows and sold many thousands of pieces over the years.
HAND-CRAFTING: We carry a retail inventory in excess of $45,000 to each fair in which we participate. Although we stock several hundreds of pieces, each piece is created and crafted one at a time personally by either Paul or Cathy. We work all winter to develop enough product to display and sell during the festival season. During the summer, we work diligently during the week to replenish any areas where our inventory may be running low. We use commercial dyes in double, triple and quadruple strength to create a garment that is vibrant and colorfast. In addition, many of our dyes are custom mixed by us to obtain “just the right color”. Our products are crafted to last for years and to retain their brilliance. Our process is not unique, but our dedication to our craft is second to none. We take great pride in our ever-growing base of returning clientele.
OUR PROCESS: We purchase blanks (white, untreated clothing and fabric) from numerous sources. These are washed and soaked in special solutions to remove any incidental sizing, resists or other agents and to prepare the garment to receive the dye. After washing, they’re spun to remove the excess water then folded and banded in different ways to create the base for the design. After folding, they may be dried further or re-wet, depending upon the desired effect. The dye is applied by hand to each piece individually. The manner in which the garment is folded and banded, the degree to which the garment is either wet or dry and the manner in which the dye is applied determines the design and coloration of the piece. While designs can be replicated, they are never exactly alike and each piece is unique.
