Waking up to seeing snow fall is a very magical experience to me. I grew up on a hillside of a mountain in upstate, NY where it could be raining at the bottom, but snowing on top. I love snow. I started sledding when I was little, but I believe when I was three, my dad had me between his legs learning how to snowplow and ski down a mountain. While living the Tahoe dream over the past four years, after skiing mostly the east coast for most of my life, I finally got AIRE certified. Most don't know what that is, and I didn't until I moved to Tahoe. It's the most basic class in Avalanche Safety. There are many more courses to take, but I love now that I know how to read the bulletins and the mountains for signs of an avalanche. They can be small or large, but nothing can really prepare you for one until it happens. I like learning about risks in life, but not testing them out so much, which is why I liked the three day class because we actually did some backwoods hiking to just ski down some beautiful powder that had recently fallen. We don't really get the powder on the East coast, so I'm feeling very blessed now to be sharing the Tahoe dream with who-ever reads this... go find your powder moments!
