Vanida's Handmade Clay Flowers, Santa Rosa, CA
My name is Vanida, and I'm originally from Thailand. I love to do many kinds of handmade art. Clay flowers, however, are my favorite. Since moving to America, over an idle weekend, I revisited my history by making a flower. Since they have been so well recieved, I decided to devote more attention to my craft by making many types and varieties. The flowers are all make from a white Japanese clay called Luna clay. Creation is a multi step process. First, I have to blend the color tones of the clay with oil paints before beginning sculpting, choosing and applying patterns. I have special tools to help me with my work, but mostly the flower making process is about having a steady hand to control my work. Then, I have to let it dry for one day before I begin painting, waiting for colors to dry before putting everything together. Every part of the inside of the flowers contains wire to support the flower struture. This results in a long-lasting, flexible and durable clay flower. I can do many kind of flowers, but my favorite is orchids.
