William Gray Designs, Redwood City, CA
My interest in are was first peaked by my Orange High School art teacher, Mr Larson back in 1962. It took 30 plus years in the home furnishing and design retail businsess before I got the bug again.
With a shop full of leftovers from many remodeling projects, I began to construct birdhouses for my own landscaping project which quicky led to requests from family and friends for unique gifts. In 2003 I began to show my items on the art and craft fair circuit in Northern California.
My medium is vintage architectural salvage from the many homes being razed in the Bay Area, along with construction cast offs, found objects and just plain junk. Each piece is unique, no plans or templates are used. Each evolves in itselfuntil there is a personality that brings delight from customers and clients. I also create yard sculptures, water features, yard furniture, collages and mixed media assemblages.
