Growing up in military families and settling in a military town, it was destiny that my husband and I pay homage to the majestice Eagle, Globe, and Anchor that is the icon for Jacksonville, NC. Military pride is everywhere, so when we decided to pay tribute, we knew one thing, we wanted BIG! And big is what we did. Our all wood version of the 1890 Eagle, Globe, and Anchor measures 38" wide x 47 1/2" long. It is AWESOME! We are extremely proud of it. It took over 200 hours to lay out the pattern, cut the pieces, sand, shape, carve, and glue them back together. I didn't even time how long it took to create the pattern. It's only the 3rd pattern I've created and it was a challenge. There are 8 types of wood cut into 345+ pieces. There were no paints or stains used. The red is aromatic red cedar, white is aspen, blue pine was used in the flags and the globe, but the most awesome was the exotic lacewood and walnut that we used to create the eagle. Dana did a good job getting the eagle to look like he means business. This piece sold as soon as we showed the pattern. We are working on the 2nd one which should be done in September.
