Nonye Toria, the Vocal Power House of Afrobeat
Without a doubt, Nonye Toria has a compelling voice that captures the ears and hearts of
anyone that listens to her music, she also displays a rare kind of musical brilliance with her
lyrics and versatility. This is evident in her just-released debut album Felicitas Seaculi. The
12-track album has all the ingredients that defines quality Afrobeat album and would no
doubt do the numbers. As Nonye Toria gradually registers her sound and place in the
Nigerian and African music scene, her growing fans need to know about their favourite's
background.
Nonye Toria was originally named Victoria-Joy Nonye Okocha and was born in Lagos. She
is from a royal lineage in Delta State, Nigeria. Nonye however spent the early parts of her life
living in Lagos, Nigeria before relocating to England at the age of 13. While in the UK, she
attended she attended Redmaids High School, the Hensley College, East Berkshire College,
and Hull University. Nonye is also a humanitarian as she has worked with the likes of Dayo
Israel Foundation to create youth empowerment programs in affiliation with the United
Nations (UN).
Nonye started her musical journey playing the flute as a child. She was part of the Sarafina
Musical when she was at Dominican Primary School. In 2006, she went on to join the Mo-
Town band when she was at Berkshire College, Langley, UK. As a member of the band, she
performed covers from "The Temptation", "Johnny Cash", and some old-school blues. In
2008, Nonye performed before the Queen of England who came to her Performing Arts
School. In the same year, she featured in a few episodes of "EastEnders- BBC a favourite TV
in Britain. She has also performed in shows around the UK.
Nonye's powerful and distinctive vocals has earned her a position second to none in the
Afrobeat space. She has so far released 5 singles with her first hit single Bad Girl bringing
her to spotlight. Nonye has also dropped the visuals for her recent hit song Paper Loving
remix. In March 2022, she got signed to Saint Alexandra Entertainment.
Nonye believes music is therapeutic. She uses her music to heal the soul and earth. Her debut
album Felicitas Saeculi- Happiness of Ages is available on streaming platforms. Nonye
Toria is opened to collaborations from both Nigerian and international acts.
